This traditional school built in 1870 in the Meiji era closed in 2017 as it was merged with Seisen Elementary School.
Borrowing its antique building boasting a long history of 147 years, we will organize art events that are sure to be exciting both for children and adults.

We will welcome Iseo Nose, who was involved with the first graffiti exhibition at a Japanese museum, Toko Suzuki, who was interviewed by Banksy, and Yoshihiro Hoshina, who is familiar with the current graffiti market to talk about the past, present and future of graffiti.

STRONG BEAUTY & ART “Pro-Wrestling Shimabara Aki no Jin” - 10/19 Sat.

In addition to paid bouts at the former Junpu Elementary School gymnasium featuring Big Japan Pro Wrestling stars such as Actwres girl’Z and Super Delfin etc., a free event will also be held where wrestlers will interact with pro-wrestling fans and entertainers that enjoy pro-wrestling.
Former wrestling greats Great Kojika and Mach Fumiake will also hold a Legends Talk event, and attendees will be able to view public practice.

Artist Comment:
A series drawn from the world of Show pro-wrestlers with their wildness and character. I don’t remember the era when prowrestling was shown on television during prime time, but I feel that this pro-wrestling had to be a wonderful drama and entertainment to bring everyone together in their living rooms to watch it.

Laugh & Peace Enter tainment School Okinawa presents “Portfolio EXPO”

The Laugh & Peace Entertainment School Okinawa was the first authorized school to be established by Yoshimoto Kogyo, in Okinawa.
We will exhibit the collective works (portfolio) of students studying entertainment, including manga, 3D CG animation, game graphics,illustration design, music and video production etc.

Artist Comment:
The theme is ancient Ryukyu’s understanding of nature, and life and death. “Suderu” means to “be reborn” in the ancient Ryukyu tongue. The ancient Ryukyuans are calling us to “suderu” into our new selves, just as the chrysalis turns into a butterfly.

International Open Call Art Olympia Award Selection Exhibition

Archigram collaboration between different industries including traditional Kyoto crafts and brands.
This year we present “Kyoto Lanterns x Finland”. This is a collaboration between Kojima Shouten, who worked on the large lanterns of Minami-za etc., and popular Scandinavian (Finland) fabric brand “Ivana Helsinki”.
The theme of the exhibit is “What if traditional Kyoto crafts disturbed the lifestyle of Finland”, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Japan and Finland.

“OFLIFE” is a close-up documentary program broadcast every Tuesday on Mainichi Broadcasting in which specialists in fields such as entertainment and athletics try their hand at a different talent.
The title “OFLIFE” includes the two meanings of “way of life” and “view of life”.
We will exhibit works of art introduced in these broadcasts.

Sagaso! Exhibition of Thanks for Common Items

A Chekki exhibition with audio of things that make children “feel grateful”.
Classes have been held in advance with about 100 children from Umekoji Elementary School and Shimogyo Elementary School for this initiative to nurture hearts that are grateful.

Yoshimoto Manzai Theater & Yoshimoto Hall Presents “Yoshimoto Art in Kyoto International Film and Art Festival”

The young comedians from the Tohan Theater will create calendars with the concept of “Thank You for Everything”, which is this year’s theme.
These will be sold according to a visitors’ vote during the festival. They are scheduled to be exhibited and sold at the art fair that will take place at Hanshin Department Store Umeda Main Store, from Wed. 18 December to Tue. 24 December.
